Wimbo park is opposite Bourke Street Bakery in Surry Hills. It is just down the road from where I live.
It was built in the early 1900s and was originally named Wimbo Paddock. These are some things people used to do at Wimbo Park and some of the things they had there:
Men played marbles, a tight rope walker, a carnival with a carousel (which is like horses that are on merry-go rounds) and captain penfold flying away in his hot-air balloon.
All of this is shown in a really nice mosaic mural that is in the park.
Wimbo Park is now a place where people can eat some pastry from Bourke Street Bakery, ride your scooter or bike around, meet up with your friends, chill out, play a ball game on the grass with your friends when you meet up and even let your dog go to the toilet (but you have to pick it up and put it in the bin if its brown). I forgot to mention that cows and horses also went to the toilet in the park 70 years ago.
This is a picture of the park I took a few days ago
In 2015 construction workers will be working on a light rail track that will be going from Central station all the way to Randwick, which means it will go along Devonshire Street, through Wimbo Park and the bad news is that they are going to make the track go straight through Olivia Gardens which is an apartment block and all the people that live there will have to find a new house.😱😱😱😱😱😞😞😞😞😞
